Why a blister card is not a box

A blister card is patient specific. Swap two cards and you do not have a logistics error but a medication incident. Sorting a blister card is therefore a different job from sorting a parcel, even though the movements look alike. Two properties make it difficult. The card is rigid but fragile, so it must not end up in an output where it lands on a corner. And the identification sits on the card itself rather than on an outer box, so scanning has to happen the moment the card enters the machine. The MicroSorter reads the card at the induction station and then places it in a controlled way into the output belonging to that patient, ward or route. The link between card and destination comes from your own pharmacy system.

Blister cards being sorted per patient

Rooted in the pharmacy, not in the warehouse

The unit dose card originated in the pharmacy, and so did the experience this machine was designed with. Collo-X is the logistics brand of FarmaSort, which has been supplying systems to hospital pharmacies and community pharmacies across Europe for more than ten years. You can see that in what the machine does by default. Every card is logged individually, sorting follows the layout of your pharmacy system rather than the other way around, and the process can be reconstructed afterwards for an audit. The systems are built and maintained from Wijchen, by the same organisation that supports the existing pharmacy installations.
